The two speed control prevents annoying and destructive "jerk" between speed transitions. Resistor banks, timers, and fluid couplings can be eliminated. This patented Smooth Move control system allows two-speed A.C. squirrel cage motors to effectively replace even 5-speed wound rotor motors in horizontal travel applications. The switch to two speed standard induction motors decreases maintenance problems inherent in wound rotor designs and allows two discrete, repeatable motor speeds. All contractor arcing is eliminated, allowing heavy motor plugging without contractor burnout or electrical wear.
